Town and Gown:Crescent Varsity partners Ogun Tech on Microsoft Fabric Training

In its commitment to enriching staff members and students’ latest technological knowledge, Crescent University, Abeokuta has concluded a one-day training tagged “Building AI-Driven Data solutions with Microsoft Fabric”.

The workshop was organised by Ogun Tech Community in conjunction with the College of Information and Communication Technology (CICOT), Crescent University,Abeokuta.

According to the President of Ogun Tech Community, Mr Adekunle Durosinmi, the initiative formed part of Community’s drive to equip young people with practical skills in artificial intelligence, data engineering, and analytics across institution in Ogun State.

Durisinmi said Crescent University Abeokuta was selected for its commitment to academic excellence and development of stellar alumni around the world.

The training session was facilitated by a reputable UK-based professional, Mr. Samuel Akpan, who is an expert in Data Engineering, Data Infrastructure and Analytics.

Akpan took participants through a practical session of the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem including the Lakehouse Architecture, Data Engineering, Analytics and AI-powered insights.

He also demonstrated how modern organizations convert raw data into intelligent, data-driven decisions, emphasizing how Microsoft Fabric would bring together data engineering, analytics and AI capabilities within a unified environment and making it a powerful platform for the next generation of innovators.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibraheem Gbajabiamila commended efforts of the Founder of the university,His Excellency Prince Bola Ajibola who mortgaged his assets to establish Crescent University for humanity.

Gbajabiamila underscored Crescent University’s commitment to advancing digital innovation, AI research, software engineering, and emerging technologies that prepare graduates to compete and excel anywhere in the world.

He also highlighted the university’s CBT Centre and growing technology infrastructure as strategic platforms for expanding digital learning, innovation, and research opportunities

In his welcome address, the Dean of CICOT, Dr Ma’ruf Oyelakin expressed gratitude to the Proprietor and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Prince Ma’ruf Adesegun Ajibola SAN for his vision and commitment to the expansion of the College particularly its newly built infrastructure housing the Knowledge and Artificial Intelligence laboratories.

Earlier, Oyelakin had taken the Ogun Tech team on a tour of the new ICT facilities, stressing that Crescent University had the best ICT centre and knowledge lab in Ogun State.

He stressed that Crescent University was poised to build innovators, engineers, researchers, and problem-solvers who would shape Africa’s digital future.

Also present were Director of Abeokuta Business School, Dr Muhyideen Ishaq, Coordinator of Department of Software Engineering, Mr Fatai Yisa, Coordinator of Department of Cyber security, Mrs Shakirat Akee, Coordinator of Department of Computer Science, Mrs Badrat Saka and Coordinator of Physical Sciences, Mr Akanji Olaniyi
