Top Iranian negotiator arrives in Pakistan after regime skipped peace talks and Trump canceled his team’s trip

ISLAMABAD — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is back in Islamabad on Sunday after having left Pakistan’s capital without meeting with US officials on Saturday, Pakistani and Iranian sources told The Post.

It comes as the Pakistanis are working overtime to get a second round of US-Iran peace talks back on the table after President Trump cancelled American negotiators’ trip to Islamabad on Saturday.

That abrupt cancellation came shortly after Araghchi and the Iranian delegation left Islamabad for Oman without meeting Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who were expected to leave for Pakistan’s capital the same day.

Araghchi and the Iranian delegation then visited Muscat, where they consulted with Omani officials — including on issues related to a potential peace proposals, the sources said.

Pakistani mediators Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who met with the Iranian team before their departure on Saturday, are expected to speak with Araghchi again.
