Tinubu helped Buhari, North will return favour in 2027 — Yari

The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Abdulaziz Yari, has said the North will support President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, describing it as a way of repaying the President’s past support for the region.

Yari, a former Zamfara State governor, said Tinubu’s decision to back former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 despite pressure to contest against him created a political bond that the North would not forget.

He spoke in Lagos when he led members of the APC Presidential Campaign Council to the palace of the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, as part of their engagement ahead of the 2027 election.

According to Yari, Tinubu stood by Buhari and allowed the North to complete its eight-year presidential tenure, and the region would now support him to complete his own term.

“For us in the north, I think it is time for us to pay Tinubu back for allowing the north complete its full term,” Yari said.

He recalled that some politicians had pressured Tinubu to challenge Buhari in the 2019 presidential election, but the former Lagos governor chose to support Buhari’s re-election bid.

Yari said there was now no excuse for the North not to support Tinubu, adding that the region believed in fairness and political continuity.

The APC campaign DG also defended Tinubu’s administration, saying the President inherited difficult circumstances but had taken steps to restructure the country’s economy and improve infrastructure
