Tinubu condemns Jos, Kaduna killings, vows justice for victims

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the recent attacks in Plateau and Kaduna states, describing the perpetrators as “heartless cowards” who will be brought to justice.

Recall that gunmen had on Saturday attacked a wedding in Kahir village, Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State, killing 13 persons and abducting 28 others.

A day later, no fewer than 28 people were reportedly killed when assailants opened fire on a community in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos, Plateau state, leaving several others injured.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, his special adviser on information and strategy, the President described the incidents as “barbaric and cowardly”, noting that the attacks were an affront to the nation’s values.

He said, Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village is a heartless coward.

“By attacking soft targets in Jos, their objective is not only to cause harm but also trigger a spiral of reprisal attacks and further bloodletting.”

The President said he had directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attacks, as well as individuals spreading misinformation capable of escalating tensions.

He also cautioned sections of the media against portraying the incidents as religiously motivated, urging responsible reporting in the interest of national peace.

Tinubu emphasised the need for proactive security measures, calling on agencies to act on early warning intelligence to prevent further attacks.

“I urge our security agencies to be more proactive in preventing these attacks by acting on early warning intelligence. All the remaining abductees from Kahir village must be rescued immediately,” he added.

Tinubu commended Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau; and Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna; for their responses to the incidents.

He also sympathised with the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery, assuring that the Federal Government is acquiring advanced equipment to strengthen security operations and tackle criminal elements effectively.
