This Was Everything I Ate at Alexx Ekubo’s Funeral’ — Lady’s Viral Video Sparks Controversy

A Nigerian woman has sparked reactions online after sharing a video where she enthusiastically recounted her experience at the funeral ceremony held in honour of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo.

In the viral video circulating on social media, the woman listed several meals and refreshments served during the event while responding to critics who questioned why some attendees were seen eating and enjoying themselves at a funeral gathering.

Some social media users had criticized guests at the ceremony, suggesting that people were more focused on food and entertainment rather than mourning. However, the woman defended the practice, explaining that providing food for guests is a common part of many funeral ceremonies.

According to her, attending a funeral does not mean people cannot accept meals provided by the family, especially when refreshments are prepared for visitors and sympathizers.

She mentioned that guests were treated to a variety of delicacies, including small chops, goat meat pepper soup, catfish pepper soup, and the traditional combination of roasted corn and pear.

The woman particularly highlighted the size and quality of the pear served at the event, joking about how impressive it was and wondering where the organizers got such a large fruit.

She also pushed back against those criticizing attendees for eating, telling them that they could simply decline food whenever they attend similar occasions if they believe accepting meals is inappropriate.

Beyond the food, she revealed that guests also danced during the gathering, explaining that the event was not only about grief but also about celebrating the life and achievements of the late actor.

She noted that the ceremony was a way of honouring a man she described as someone who lived a meaningful and fulfilled life before his passing.

The woman said:

“So this was everything I ate at Alexx Ekubo’s funeral. For those saying people went there to eat, if it reaches your turn and they give you food at a funeral, do what you want. Cry with your crying, use it to rub your body.”

She continued by listing the meals served, adding that she enjoyed the goat meat pepper soup and was impressed by the corn and pear combination.

She further explained that dancing at the ceremony was part of celebrating the actor’s legacy rather than showing disrespect.

The video has since generated mixed reactions online, with some users supporting her view that funerals can include moments of celebration, while others argued that public displays of enjoyment at such events should be approached with sensitivity.

The debate has once again highlighted differing cultural views surrounding funeral ceremonies, especially the balance between mourning the deceased and celebrating their life.
