Tension Arises As Ghana Police Allegedly Block Vehicle Carrying Kantanka’s Body From Leaving Funeral Home As Court Order Bites

A hearse reportedly transporting the body of Apostle Prof. Emeritus Ing. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, founder of the Kantanka Movement, has been prevented from leaving the Transitions Funeral Home, as authorities moved to enforce the Accra High Court’s injunction halting his burial.

The development marks the most concrete sign yet that the 10-day interim injunction, granted by the court on Wednesday, July 29, is being actively enforced on the ground, even as thousands of mourners had already gathered at Gomoa Mpota for the planned funeral rites.

The court order restrains former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo from proceeding with any funeral-related activities, following a legal challenge filed by the Kristo Asafo Mission over control of the late industrialist’s estate and final rites.

Counsel for the Mission, Nana Kofi Safo Kantanka, had earlier explained that the injunction temporarily prevents Adwoa Safo from organising or executing any part of the funeral programme until the substantive legal issues are reviewed by the court.

With the hearse reportedly unable to leave the funeral home, the planned burial appears to have hit a genuine legal wall, despite Adwoa Safo’s repeated public insistence that the funeral would go ahead as scheduled.

It remains unclear how the standoff at the funeral home will affect the thousands already gathered at the burial grounds, or whether further legal or security intervention will follow.
