Tears Flow As Mother and Two-Year-Old Daughter Killed by Lightning in Florida

A 31-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter have died after lightning struck them outside their home in Florida.

The victims were identified as Kenya Glasgow and her young daughter. The incident happened in Margate, near Fort Lauderdale, on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

Margate police and fire officials received an emergency call at about 2:30 p.m. after the mother and child were found lying on a sidewalk near their vehicle.

A neighbour said the pair appeared to have just stepped out of the car when the lightning struck.

Emergency workers performed CPR at the scene before taking them to separate hospitals. Kenya was transported to North Broward Medical Center. Her daughter was taken to Broward Health Medical Center.

Doctors pronounced both of them dead shortly after they arrived at the hospitals, according to local authorities.

A neighbour, Prince Moody, said he heard a loud noise and saw an orange flash through his window. The force of the lightning reportedly shook his house.

He rushed outside after his son alerted him that someone had fallen. He called emergency services and tried to assist the family until paramedics arrived.

Kenya’s husband and the toddler’s twin sister were reportedly nearby when the incident happened.

The family has been left devastated by the sudden loss. Kenya’s husband described his wife as a caring woman who always put other people before herself.

Police have not released further information. Their investigation into the incident remains active.
