Super Falcons Stars Reportedly Robbed at Morocco Hotel Days Before WAFCON

Several members of Nigeria’s Super Falcons have reportedly fallen victim to a theft incident at their team hotel in Casablanca, Morocco, just days before the commencement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The players reportedly discovered that cash kept in their wallets had gone missing after returning to their hotel rooms, raising concerns within the team’s camp as preparations for the continental tournament intensify.

The Super Falcons are currently staying at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca, where they have been conducting their final training sessions ahead of the championship.

According to reports from the team’s camp, several players noticed that money they had left among their personal belongings had disappeared. The alleged thefts were discovered at different times by the affected players.

Among those reportedly affected is forward Esther Okoronkwo, who is said to have lost $700.

Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade reportedly discovered that $200 was missing from her belongings, while experienced defender Osinachi Ohale allegedly lost $100.

Midfielder Joy Omewa is also reported to have lost $120, while fellow midfielder Halimatu Ayinde allegedly had $100 stolen.

In total, the affected players reportedly lost $1,220, an amount estimated to be worth over ₦1.7 million.

The incident has reportedly unsettled members of the squad as they continue preparations for the tournament, with team officials said to have been informed of the development.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had not issued an official statement on the alleged theft, and it remains unclear whether a formal investigation has been launched.

The Super Falcons arrived in Casablanca earlier this month and have been using the city as their training base before relocating to Rabat for the tournament.

Nigeria heads into the 2026 WAFCON as the defending champions and one of the favourites to win the title, with the team aiming to extend its dominance in African women’s football by securing another continental crown.

The nine-time African champions have been drawn in Group C, where they will face Malawi, Zambia, and Egypt during the group stage.

Speaking ahead of the competition, Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu admitted that defending Nigeria’s title would be a difficult task, noting that every participating nation would be motivated to dethrone the reigning champions.

“We are holding something precious that everybody wants, but we will remain resolute and focused and try as much as possible to achieve both objectives. So, there’s a huge burden on us,” Madugu said.

The coach also urged his players to conduct themselves with discipline throughout the competition.

“We need to be careful with what we do wherever we are because we must set a good example and try to be exemplary in everything we do,” he added.

The Super Falcons will be hoping to put the off-field distraction behind them as they begin their quest to successfully defend their African title and strengthen their reputation as the continent’s most successful women’s national team.
