Super Eagles vs Madagascar: Akor Adams in line to replace injured Osimhen

Akor Adams is expected to lead the Super Eagles attack when Nigeria take on Madagascar in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on Friday.

The 26-year-old striker is reportedly the preferred choice to start in attack, following the absence of Victor Osimhen, who has been ruled out of the fixture due to injury.

According to a source in the Super Eagles camp, Adams is currently ahead of George Ilenikhena, Tolu Arokodare, Taiwo Awoniyi and Moses Usor in the competition for a place in the starting lineup.

The decision would give Adams another opportunity to play a major role for the national team as Nigeria continue their campaign to qualify for the 2027 AFCON tournament.

Adams has gradually become an important part of the Super Eagles since making his international debut against Lesotho in October last year.

The striker made an immediate impact after scoring on his debut and has continued to feature regularly for the national team.

He has so far made 15 appearances for Nigeria and has scored six goals during that period.

With Osimhen unavailable, the responsibility will now be on Adams and the other attacking players to provide the goals needed to secure maximum points against Madagascar.

Nigeria will host the Barea of Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

The match is part of the Group L qualifying fixtures for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles will be hoping to make good use of home advantage and strengthen their position in the group with a positive result.

The encounter is scheduled to kick off at 5pm Nigerian time on Friday.

After the Madagascar game, Nigeria will continue their qualifying campaign with another fixture against Guinea-Bissau.
