Spain’s Lamine Yamal’s home targeted in attempted burglary hours after winning World Cup semifinal

Spanish soccer star Lamine Yamal’s $12 million-plus property in Barcelona was targeted in an attempted burglary shortly after Spain’s World Cup semifinal win over France on Tuesday, The Sun reported.

According to the outlet, authorities confirmed the incident took place shortly after the 19-year-old helped Spain qualify for the World Cup final. 

Two individuals wearing ski masks climbed onto the house’s wall but were startled by private security guards and fled, according to local police.

Though Yamal was thousands of miles away in Dallas, participating in a massive match, security spotted two individuals on CCTV attempting to scale the perimeter wall of his mansion, which was once owned by Barcelona legend Gerard Piqué.

The guards’ quick reaction froze the burglars, who decided to run off before they could force entry into the house or make off with any valuables, Euro News reported.

The attempted break-in took place early Wednesday morning in Barcelona, not too long after Spain defeated France.

Police have launched an investigation into attempted robbery with force, and the Barcelona Criminal Investigation Division is reviewing CCTV footage to identify the suspects, The Sun reported. 

Yamal played a key role in Spain’s win, earning a penalty against French defender Lucas Digne in the first half, which led to La Roja taking a 1-0 lead after Mikel Oyarzabal scored on the ensuing penalty kick.

The win also improved Spain’s overall unbeaten record in international matches with Yamal in the starting lineup. He further outperformed Kylian Mbappé, increasing his record to 6-0 in head-to-head international matchups against the Frenchman. 

Spain will now take on Lionel Messi and Argentina on Sunday at MetLife Stadium for the World Cup crown.
