Spain receives 20 Palestinian children from Gaza for medical treatment

Spain has received 20 Palestinian children from the Gaza Strip along with their families as part of the sixth medical evacuation mission, where they will receive treatment in Spanish hospitals.

Spanish Health Minister Mónica García said in a post on X that the children “leave behind the barbarity to receive the care they need in our hospitals.” She added that they “arrive with fear, but also hope,” describing their arrival as “a source of national pride.”

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that “no human being, and, of course, no child, should have to endure the horror being lived through in Gaza.” He added Spain is currently hosting 100 Palestinians, including the 20 children and their families, for medical treatment. He described providing them with healthcare as a moral duty, while also stressing the need to defend their right to return safely to their homes.

The move comes as part of Spain’s continued opposition to the war in Gaza. Madrid has taken a series of diplomatic and political steps, including calling for the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, withdrawing its ambassador from Tel Aviv, banning activities linked to the Israeli military, and urging Israel to be held accountable for alleged human rights violations.
