Shocking revelation: Israel helped defend this Gulf nation from Iranian missile and drone attacks, sent ‘Iron Beam’ and troops amid war

As conflict continues to escalate between Iran and the US, a significant yet quietly carried out development emerged on Thursday. Israel has dispatched a version of its advanced laser-based air defense system, the ‘Iron Beam,’ to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to a report by the Financial Times, the decision was taken to protect the Gulf nation against Iranian drone and missile attacks.

The move marks a significant step for the defense ties between Israel and the UAE. Jerusalem not only sent over the Iron Beam but also dispatched an advanced surveillance system called Spectro to detect Iranian drones from a range of 20 kilometers. The report builds on a coverage by Axios earlier in the week, which mentioned that Israel deployed an Iron Dome Battery and several dozen troops to operate it.

Another crucial detail revealed

Citing a source familiar with the matter, the report added that Israel also dispatched additional, unspecified weapons systems to the Gulf nation. “It’s not a small number of boots on the ground,” the source was quoted as saying. The newspaper further reported that Jerusalem provided the Emirates with real-time information on missile launches from Tehran heading toward it.

Many of the weapons sent to the UAE were not completely operational and were in prototypes or the testing phase in Israel. Given the rapidly escalating pace of the conflict, Jerusalem decided to send them to the Arab Emirates regardless.

What is ‘Iron Beam’ system?

The Iron Beam is a high-power, cutting-edge laser interception system recently integrated into the IDF’s defense array. The first operational system was delivered to the Israeli military last year in December. The system was in the making for over a decade after being unveiled in 2014. It was declared operational in September following development and final tests.

Within Israel, the system is intended to supplement and complement the Iron Dome and several other air defense systems. It is meant to shoot down smaller projectiles and leave bigger ones for the more robust missile-based batteries, including David’s Sling and Arrow systems, reports added.
