Seun Kuti shares controversial take on Nigerian beggars

Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has made a controversial claim about the practice of giving alms to street beggars, claiming that it is delaying visible change.

The artist, while speaking during an interview with ObjecTV, claimed that because Nigerians are constantly giving alms to beggars, they are not “hungry” enough to spark a revolution.

Seun also explained that the less privileged are supposed to be angry about the state of the country, but the alms they receive pacifies them and makes them hopeful.

“The beggars are the ones who are supposed to be angry in order to cause revolution, but since we give them money from time to time, they are not hungry enough to be angry,” he stated.
