Section Of University Of Cape Coast Campus Submerges After Heavy Downpour, Disrupting Student Movement

Heavy rainfall has left sections of the University of Cape Coast campus submerged in floodwaters, disrupting movement and causing significant difficulties for students and staff on the premises.

Footage circulating online shows the extent of the flooding across multiple parts of the campus, with roads and open spaces transformed into fast-moving channels of brown water.

In one scene, a vehicle attemptted to navigate a partially submerged campus road as bystanders watch from the edges. In other shots, the scale of the inundation is visible across wide stretches of what would normally be walkable campus terrain, with streetlights and road barriers barely visible above the waterline.

The flooding follows torrential rainfall that has been affecting several parts of Ghana’s Central Region, with the UCC campus, situated in Cape Coast among the areas impacted.

Students were left unable to move freely between facilities, with access roads rendered impassable by the depth and speed of the floodwaters. The full extent of damage to campus infrastructure, including lecture halls, student accommodation and other facilities, has not yet been officially confirmed by university management.

The University of Cape Coast has issued a formal statement on the flooding at the time of publication.
