Sanusi to lead Kano Sallah durbar as govt tightens security

The Kano state government has confirmed that Muhammad Sanusi II will lead the Eid-el-Fitr durbar, even as authorities warn against any attempt to disrupt the celebrations.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ibrahim Waiya, the commissioner for information and internal affairs said the decision followed consultations with the Kano emirate counciland other stakeholders.

He disclosed that intelligence reports indicated plans by some individuals to disrupt the festivities, stressing that the government would not compromise on security.

“The state remains committed to preserving its cultural heritage but will not compromise on maintaining peace, law and order, and safeguarding lives and property,” Waiya said.

According to him, the Hawan Idi durbar will be conducted by the emir from the Kofar Mata Eid praying ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, ending at Kofar Fatalwa within the emir’s palace.

He added that Hawan Nasarawa would hold in a modified form without horseback displays, while Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi have been suspended in the interest of public safety.

Waiya said security agencies had been directed to intensify surveillance before, during, and after the Sallah celebrations to ensure full compliance with the directives.

He urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, warning against the spread of unverified information during the festive period.

The government, he added, is committed to ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration across the state.
