Sam Amadi Reveals Why Peter Obi And Uzodinma Asked Him Not To Contest

Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Sam Amadi, has disclosed that Governor Hope Uzodinma advised him against running for the governorship position in Imo State back in 2014.

Amadi also revealed that presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, similarly discouraged him from contesting for a Senate seat, cautioning that the process would be characterised by violence and what he described as “evil.”

The former NERC boss made these disclosures in a post shared on his Facebook page on Wednesday, as he reflected on his political ambitions and the broader challenges confronting Nigeria’s electoral system.

According to him, Obi advised against him contesting for the Senate due to the violence often associated with elections, while he also recalled a similar warning from Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma back in 2014.

Despite these warnings, Amadi declared his intention to contest for the governorship, insisting he would not be deterred.

He wrote: “The violent shall end by violence.

“In 2014, Senator Hope Uzodinma, now Governor Hope Uzodinma told me ‘Sam, you know you ought to be Governor of Imo State, but you cannot do the things we do’.

“In 2026, Mr. Peter Obi, reacting to wide call for me to run for Senate, told me ‘Sam, do not run. It will be very violent. You are a good man. You cannot do the evil they do. I know how evil they are’.

“But I will run for Governor, evil or no evil.

“The violent shall end by violence.”
