Royal expert Kinsey Schofield agreed, noting that the royal family has not publicly celebrated Markle’s birthday since she and Harry relinquished their positions as senior working royals. “The Royal Family has consistently reserved official birthday wishes for working royals, and Harry, Meghan, and their children haven’t been included in that policy for several years,” Schofield said. “Palace officials would tell you it’s protocol, not personal.”

Schofield suggested that the monarch may have instructed palace staff to send Markle a card or gift away from the public eye. “Charles has always had a compassionate streak, and despite everything that’s happened, he has rarely gone out of his way to be overtly unkind toward Meghan,” she explained. “A discreet gesture would be entirely in keeping with his character.”

Whether Charles personally contacted Markle remains unknown. Neither the palace nor the Sussexes publicly confirmed that a private birthday exchange occurred. However, the possibility comes as Harry and Markle appear to be making progress in repairing their strained relationship with the king. Schofield claimed there is now “simply” no relationship between Markle and William. “They believe Meghan played a significant role in the breakdown of family trust, and I think any suggestion that they’re secretly exchanging birthday wishes belongs more in the realm of wishful thinking than reality,” she said.

Neither William nor Kate publicly commented on Markle’s birthday, and there has been no indication that the couple has resolved the conflict that has separated them for several years.

Rather than addressing the royal family’s silence, Markle celebrated the occasion with a lighthearted post of her own. The “Suits” alum shared two photographs showing her jumping into a swimming pool while holding a bouquet of balloons. “Thank you for the birthday love!” she captioned the images.

Markle did not disclose how she planned to spend the remainder of her birthday.
