As rumors intensify about her prospective return to daytime hosting, the comedian has confirmed she will participate in an upcoming milestone celebration for her former program. 

This exciting update comes shortly after O’Donnell reflected on her time on “The View,” noting the rocky history she had with the show’s current moderator, Whoopi Goldberg.

Speaking on “The Tangle” podcast, the 64-year-old comedian announced that she will return to “The View” as a guest to celebrate its landmark 30th season.

Having previously co-hosted the program for a short while, O’Donnell confirmed her willingness to participate alongside a wider roster of former panel members.

“I will go on the 30th anniversary,” she stated. While emphasizing that her involvement will strictly be as a visiting guest rather than a permanent co-host, as seen in a clip on Instagram.

She also praised what the series has built, noting her pride in how it currently addresses political issues and resonates with everyday viewers.

Reflecting on her earlier tenure, O’Donnell pointed out how the set environment has changed since she first took over the moderator seat in 2006. She described her initial experience as a high-stress workplace where talent felt disposable, and security was thin. 

Furthermore, she expressed frustration that a show specifically designed by and for women was initially overseen by male executives who dictated topic selection, calling the dynamic deeply flawed.

Reflecting further on her history with “The View,” O’Donnell opened up about the tension she experienced with current moderator Goldberg during her time on the show from 2014 to 2015. 

“When I was there last, I had sort of a tense time with Whoopi,” O’Donnell said, per Entertainment Weekly. 

Despite admiring Goldberg’s EGOT status and holding her in high regard, O’Donnell acknowledged that their dynamic wasn’t smooth.

She explained that she had initially envisioned their partnership functioning seamlessly, but the reality proved far more complicated. 

“I think maybe she felt encroached upon in some way, and I was never trying to encroach,” O’Donnell shared, adding that she was simply hosting the only way she knew how.

Despite the early awkwardness that contributed to her second exit, O’Donnell emphasized that they have long since reconciled their past issues and both share a commitment to supporting other women in the media.

Notably, in sharp contrast to her turbulent argument with Hasselbeck, O’Donnell pointed to her 1997 conversation with music icon Barbra Streisand as one of her most cherished hosting memories.

She called the rumors “funny and completely untrue” and added, “I’m not interested in doing late night,” per The Blast. 

The “Star Search” slum revealed that her primary focus remains on her family, explaining that she plans to leave the country as soon as her temporary hosting duties conclude.

However, while firmly shutting down any interest in late-night broadcasting, she sparked excitement among long-time fans by adding that she would be interested in daytime hosting.

However, she stressed that any true comeback in broadcasting would be structured on her own terms, focusing on uplifting themes rather than on modern promotional cycles.

Reflecting on her vision for a future series, O’Donnell explained that any new endeavor would draw heavy inspiration from the warm, lighthearted format of her original syndicated program rather than modern, celebrity-focused talk shows. 

“It would look a lot like my old show, to tell you the truth. I think America wants nostalgia,” she stressed.
