Prince William ‘Horrified’ Over Harry And Meghan’s Diana Move

Prince William has reportedly been left feeling “horrified” by the prospect of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle developing a television project about their late mother, Princess Diana.

According to an insider, the future king seems particularly disturbed by his sister-in-law’s potential involvement in honoring his mother, especially because of comparisons to his mother that he “can’t stand.”

Prince William and Harry have remained estranged for a long time following the latter’s marriage and the way he has spoken about their royal family since his 2020 exit from royal life.

William’s reaction to news that Harry is developing a television project to mark 30 years since the tragic passing of their mother was not particularly positive, as the Prince of Wales is reportedly “horrified” by the idea.

Richard Kay, Daily Mail Senior Editor-at-large, previously claimed that one of the reasons Harry is present in the UK is in connection with the reported project.

He stated, “I am told that one of the reasons Harry’s here is to make a television film, his own film, about his mother… That’s going to occupy a lot of his headspace over the next 12 months.”

The Duke of Sussex is said to be contacting his mother’s friends and anyone who knew her as part of his preparations for the project.

An insider shared with Heatworld that the couple has “been collecting footage and reaching out to people to arrange interviews,” and that Diana’s family members, the Spencers, are in “full support” of the project.

William is allegedly the only one standing in the way and, according to the source, “Hearing that Harry and Meghan [Markle] are hijacking this tribute to his late mother, and on U.K. soil, no less, has sent him around the bend.”

While William is not pleased that Harry is making the tribute, the report suggests that Meghan being part of the production makes the situation more uncomfortable for William.

Heatworld reported that for Harry, Meghan being involved with the development makes “perfect sense” because he sees his mother’s compassion, empathy, and confidence in her.

According to their insider, the Duchess of Sussexes’ involvement makes sense not just because she reminds him of his mother but also because, “she’s his producing partner, and she brings a ton of expertise to the table.”

Harry reportedly believes that Meghan is an asset to the team, and he feels like “her perspective on things always adds a layer he didn’t think of.”

William, on the other hand, completely disagrees with Harry’s assessment of Meghan, particularly her being compared to his beloved mother, which he reportedly “can’t stand.”

The prince believes that his wife, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, is a more fitting comparison for Diana because Meghan is “showy” with it.

Kate, on the other hand, is less so while being “just as devoted to her memory,” which the prince believes is more like his mother, who was “never interested in the spotlight.”

The latest reports of William’s negative reaction to Harry’s planned Diana tribute film would not be the first time the prince has been bothered by a project involving his late mother.

The Daily Beast reported in 2023 that William was “Sickened” seeing Diana’s ghost on the sixth season of Netflix’s “The Crown”

A friend of the prince said to the outlet at the time, “It’s incredibly hurtful to have his mother exploited over and over again in this tawdry fashion by Netflix. He won’t watch it, but he will be totally sickened by it.”

The friend added that William was upset with his brother for a plethora of reasons but, “his decision to work with Netflix, who have ruthlessly exploited the family, is certainly one of them.”

Earlier this year, Star Magazine reported that William wasn’t happy with Harry’s continued working relationship with Netflix, as well as him profiting off their mother when they were earlier rumored to be working on a feature film about Diana.

“He is absolutely sickened that Harry, and by extension Meghan, will be profiting off Diana,” said an insider while adding that “it’s nothing more than a shameless money grab.”

While it’s not clear where Harry’s planned tribute will land, William’s fears are not completely unfounded, as Harry and Meghan reportedly have a first-look deal with Netflix, making the platform the likely home for any TV project they work on.

The latest development only adds to the rift between the brothers as William remains furious at Harry after what he’s said and done over the years.

A Heatworld source described the situation, saying, “There are still so many obstacles; the chances of them being able to come together and agree on anything are less than slim.”

While a 30th anniversary for their mother Diana, whom they both love, should ideally bring the pair closer, if only to work together on a tribute for the late princess, reality presents a different outcome.

The relationship appears not to have gotten any better, and may have worsened because, as the source said, “It will be a miracle just to get them in the same room at this stage.”
