Police rescue 7, nab 5 murder suspects in nationwide operations

The Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday listed rescue of seven people from bandits in Katsina and the arrest of five suspects linked to separate murder cases across three states among the recent achievements of their operatives across the country.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, stated this in a state-by-state summary of operational successes of police operatives across the country on 21 September published on Nigeria Police Force social media handles on Wednesday morning

Iniedu said in the statement that police operatives on September 21 successfully foiled a bandit attack along the Kankara-Dutsin-Ma Road in Katsina State.

He said the bandits had intercepted a vehicle conveying six female students of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma and one other occupant.

However, the police operatives engaged the bandits in gun duel, forced them to flee with gunshot injuries, and rescued all seven occupants unhurt.

The victims were medically evaluated, discharged and reunited with the relevant authorities while the case is under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Katsina.

Iniedu further revealed that in Cross River State, a principal suspect was tracked and arrested in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old woman.

The matter is being handled by SCID Calabar.

Also, police operatives in Anambra State arrested three suspects in connection with the death of a 34-year-old man at Ojoto community, in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

The victim’s remains have been deposited in a morgue for autopsy while SCID Awka is investigating the incident.

The Police also arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a 30-year-old man at Iwere-Ile area of Oyo State.

The case is under the investigation of the SCID in Ibadan.

The other successes of the police listed by Iniedu for September 21 included the neutralisation of a suspected bandit and the arrest of two others in Benue State, the arrest of four suspected terrorist group members in Anambra.

The police operatives also recovered firearms and arrested suspected cultists and a kidnapper.

CSP Iniedu, said investigations into all the cases remain ongoing while reiterating the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to public safety.
