Police Raid Ogun Community, Detain 31 Foreign Nationals

The Ogun State Police Command has detained 31 foreign nationals suspected of residing in Nigeria without valid immigration documents.

The individuals were apprehended during a raid in the Atan Ota area of the state.

According to Zagagola Makama, security sources said the operation was conducted around 11:30pm on June 1 after residents alerted authorities to the presence of a group of foreigners in Kajola Ilese, Atan Ota.

According to the sources, the Divisional Police Officer deployed a surveillance team led by the Incident Duty Officer, ASP Dosumu Akinlolu, to verify the report.

The team reportedly located 31 individuals, comprising 19 men and 12 women, in an apartment within the community.

The suspects were subsequently taken into custody for screening and verification.

Preliminary checks reportedly showed that none of the individuals possessed valid immigration documents.

The group, however, claimed to be nationals of Côte d’Ivoire who entered Nigeria to engage in online business activities.

Police authorities said the individuals were placed in protective custody pending their transfer to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for further investigation.

The case is expected to be handed over to the Immigration Service office in Idiroko for verification of their status and any further action deemed necessary.
