Police Arrest Suspected Romance Scammer Accused of Defrauding Women

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, a suspected romance scammer accused of defrauding several women by promising to marry them and allegedly sharing their intimate images without their consent.

According to the Police in a social media post on July 28, 2026, preliminary investigations suggest that Kwarteng posed as a pastor who conducted online church services on Instagram.

Police said he allegedly targeted women and told them that God had revealed that they would become his future wives.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect posed as a pastor conducting online church services on Instagram, where he targeted women and claimed that God had revealed they were his future wives. He allegedly gained their trust by meeting their families and presenting promise rings,” the Police said.

The Police further alleged that Kwarteng obtained intimate images from some of the women and later used the images to blackmail them for money.

He is also accused of introducing some victims to a fake car tyre business and collecting thousands of dollars from them.

According to investigators, he allegedly told the women that the money was needed to ship and clear containers of tyres. He allegedly became unreachable after receiving the money.

Police also said Kwarteng allegedly shared some of the victims’ intimate images with his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah.

“Investigations further revealed that the suspect shared the intimate images of some victims with his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, who is also accused of threatening the victims,” the statement added.

So far, seven victims have reported the matter to the Police. Investigations suggest that the alleged offences may have started in 2021.

The two suspects have been arraigned before Accra Circuit Court No. 1. They are facing charges including conspiracy to commit a crime, defrauding by false pretences and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.

“The court remanded Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng into Police custody to reappear on August 6, 2026, while Sally Akosua Amoasah was granted bail,” the statement said.

The Ghana Police Service has urged anyone who may have experienced similar incidents involving the suspect to report to the nearest Police station.

The Police said such reports will assist investigators with the ongoing case.
