Police arraign 87-year-old man over attempted m#rder of Adamawa judge

The Adamawa State Police Command has arraigned an 87-year-old man, Dahiru Garba, for allegedly attempting to m#rder an Area Court judge in Fufore Local Government Area of the state.

 

In a statement released on Tuesday, September 8, the spokesperson for the command, Suleiman Nguroje, said the suspect allegedly cut the hand of the presiding judge, Hon. Dauda Hamman, with a cutlass.

 

According to the statement, the incident occurred while the judge was presiding over a case between the suspect and one Ismail Yusuf.

 

 

“On 31st August, 2026, there was mild drama at Mayo-Ine Area Court, Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State, after an 87-year-old man, Dahiru Garba of Korawa village, allegedly cut off the hand of the Presiding Judge, Hon. Dauda Hamman, with a cutlass.

The suspect att@cked the presiding Judge with a cutlass and severally cut his hand, causing him grievous injuries. Following the incident, Dahiru Garba was immediately arrested by police operatives and the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Fufore to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yola on 4th September, 2026 for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

Upon completion of investigation, the suspect was on Monday, 8th September, 2026, arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court I, Yola, presided over by Chief Magistrate Ismail Bello Shelleng, on a one-count charge of causing grievous hurt, contrary to Section 219 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State, 2018.

When the charge was read and interpreted to him, the defendant pleaded guilty and blamed the devil for his action, saying he deeply regretted it.” the police imagemaker said

 

The court ordered that the suspect be remanded at the Yola Correctional Facility pending further hearing.
