Photos: ‘Stop The Bickering’ – Peter Obi, Dickson Meet To Resolve NDC Internal Crisis
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, on Friday held a closed-door meeting with the party’s National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) in a bid to resolve issues arising from the party’s recent primary elections.
The meeting, which lasted about three hours, came amid growing concerns over internal disagreements and fallout from the NDC primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dickson disclosed details of the meeting in a statement posted on his verified Facebook page shortly after the gathering.
According to the former Bayelsa State governor, the meeting provided an opportunity for party leaders to review recent developments within the NDC and address concerns raised by members.
“I just received my brother, colleague, and partner in the New Nigerian Project, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, CON, our presidential candidate, who, together with some distinguished leaders of our party, held a closed-door meeting which lasted about three hours,” Dickson said.
“In the course of that meeting, we reviewed the activities of our party and discussed a few recent issues that have been a source of concern to all sides, and we amicably resolved all the issues.”
Dickson said both leaders remained united in their commitment to securing victory for the NDC and removing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in 2027.
He acknowledged that disagreements had emerged within the party but said a framework had been agreed upon to manage such concerns moving forward.
“We have always been on the same page on the bigger picture, that is, winning the elections for all candidates of our party and rescuing Nigeria from the misgovernance of the APC-led government,” he stated.
“However, a few issues have arisen, and we have agreed on how to handle them moving forward.”
The NDC leader urged party members to put aside internal disputes and concentrate on strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
“I want to use this opportunity again to call on all members of our party to stop the bickering and name-calling and focus on the bigger picture,” he said.
According to Dickson, continuous consultations among party leaders and stakeholders would help strengthen unity and cohesion within the NDC.
“Both His Excellency Peter Obi and I, as well as other leaders and stakeholders of our party, will continue to consult and engage with one another to address and resolve concerns, strengthen the unity and cohesion of our party, and ensure that we remain focused on our shared mission of rescuing Nigeria and building a better future for all,” he added.
