Philadelphia Airport Passenger Currency Confiscation: How K9 Alert Exposed Traveller Carrying $44K
According to CBP, the 54-year-old naturalized US citizen from Peru told officers he was carrying $10,000. A secondary inspection revealed a total of $44,690 hidden in his pockets, carry-on bag, and separate envelopes. All the currency was seized due to violation of federal currency reporting laws, which require travelers to declare any amount over $10,000 when leaving or entering the United States. Officers returned $240 to the man before releasing him.
