Peter Obi’s interview a waste of time, offered nothing new — Aisha Yesufu

Peter Obi’s latest television interview was a waste of time and offered Nigerians nothing new, his political ally Aisha Yesufu has declared.

Yesufu, a chieftain of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, delivered the scathing verdict after Obi appeared on Channels Television on Sunday to discuss Nigeria’s challenges and his 2027 presidential ambition.

She said Obi’s interviews usually generated excitement among his supporters but described the latest session with Seun Okinbaloye as irritating and repetitive.

“So, Mr Peter Obi did an interview yesterday with Seun. I absolutely feel irritated by the whole thing,” she said in a video posted on X.

Yesufu complained that the interview revolved around familiar issues, with Obi repeating positions he had expressed several times.

“For this particular one, and maybe going forward, it is the feeling of irritation because what are we doing here? It is the same conversation every time. There is nothing he said that has not been talked about,” she said.

The activist disclosed that she reviewed the interview hoping to identify one or two fresh issues for public discussion but found none.

“I would have picked one or two things from the interview so we could talk about them, but I have been going through it and I have not seen any new questions or questions that we don’t already know the answers to. We wasted our time,” she added.

Yesufu also criticised what she described as unequal media scrutiny, arguing that Obi was repeatedly pressured to address Nigerians while President Bola Tinubu avoided similar questioning.

“Again and again, more pressure is being put on Peter Obi for him to be the one coming to talk to the people, but the former Lagos State governor, who rigged himself into the presidency, is not in front of the camera. He is not being judged,” she alleged.
