People Look Down On Me Like I’m Nothing — Woman Living With Hirsutism Opens Up On Stopping Shaving

A woman living with hirsutism has opened up in a BBC feature about her decision to stop shaving, describing years of being judged and misunderstood by people around her.

“The reason why I stopped shaving is because I just want to look different,” she said. “People look down on me like I’m nothing. Even with all this beard, I still don’t look like a man.”

Hirsutism is a medical condition that causes excessive hair growth in women, often in areas typically associated with male hair patterns, such as the face and chest.

It is commonly linked to hormonal imbalances, including elevated androgen levels, and can be associated with underlying conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Her story adds to a growing number of women worldwide who have spoken publicly about living with hirsutism, using their platforms to challenge narrow beauty standards and push back against stigma.
