Over 60 terrorists killed in failed attack on Mallam Fatori – Army

By Musa Umar Bologi, Abuja

No fewer than 60 terrorists were killed during a failed night attack by insurgents on Mallam Fatori in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.

A source at the Army Headquarters told The Nation on Wednesday that terrorists advancing on foot from the Duguri general area attempted to infiltrate the 68 Battalion’s main defensive position at about 12:50 am but were repelled.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) had earlier confirmed in a statement that several terrorists were killed in close coordination with Nigerian Army troops during a failed attack in Malam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.

The source said ground troops, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, carried out a well-coordinated operation, decisively engaging the attackers and neutralising more than 60 fighters, including several key commanders.

“The intense firelight forced the remaining insurgents into a disorganized retreat towards the Arege general area.”

According to the source, troops had since commenced exploitation operations to pursue and eliminate the fleeing terrorists.

“Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance platforms are being deployed to dominate the adversary’s withdrawal routes and prevent regrouping,” the source said.
