Osun APC Raises Alarm Over Alleged ₦130bn Airport Project in Adeleke’s Hometown

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of corruption in the execution of the Ede Airport project, describing the reported increase in the contract value from ₦99.5 billion to about ₦130 billion as criminal.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council, the opposition party questioned the justification for the reported upward review of the project’s cost and demanded that the state government provide a detailed account of how the funds have been spent.

The APC also expressed concern over reports that a significant portion of the revised contract sum had already been disbursed, insisting that the Adeleke administration owes residents of the state a full explanation of the financial decisions surrounding the project.

According to the party, the reported cost of the airport project is higher than the combined 2025 budgetary allocations to several critical sectors of Osun State’s economy, raising questions about the government’s spending priorities.

The opposition further argued that the continued failure of the state government to make relevant financial records publicly available has heightened public suspicion regarding the management of state resources.

The statement alleged that reports linking the construction company handling the airport project, Sowie Tee, to a close associate of Dr. Deji Adeleke, the elder brother of Governor Ademola Adeleke, have intensified concerns over the transparency of the project.

The APC maintained that such allegations reinforce the need for the state government to immediately publish all financial documents relating to the airport project for public scrutiny.

According to the statement, “The recent allegations concerning the Ede Airport project, that Sowie Tee is owned by a close associate of Dr Deji Adeleke, governor’s elder brother, and that the project is a conduit pipe to steal Osun money, further underscore why the state government should immediately make these financial records available for public examination.”

The party stated that if the Adeleke administration has nothing to conceal, it should release all relevant financial records, including a comprehensive breakdown of payments already made, the current stage of execution of the project, and the reasons behind the reported increase in the contract sum.

The APC further accused the state government of adopting a secretive approach to its financial dealings, arguing that the lack of transparency has lent credibility to intelligence reportedly available to the party.

It alleged that Governor Adeleke’s administration is determined to continue with what it described as a “white elephant project” because it intends to rely on funds allocated to the airport project for vote-buying ahead of the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

“The hide-and-seek posturing of the state government regarding its financials gives troubling credence to the security report at our disposal that Governor Adeleke is bent on the white elephant project in Ede because his government is relying on the project fund for vote buying during the forthcoming governorship election,” the statement added.

The APC concluded by insisting that any administration confident in its stewardship of public resources should have no difficulty opening its financial records to public examination.
