One K!lled As Security Forces Repel Fresh Gunmen Attack on NIPSS Facility in Plateau

The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), located in Kuru, Plateau State, has confirmed that armed men launched another attack on its premises, with security personnel successfully repelling the assault after a fierce gun battle.

The latest security breach occurred on Wednesday night, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the institute’s Head of Public Affairs, Dr. Osime Samuel.

Samuel disclosed that the attackers attempted to invade the strategic institution but met stiff resistance from security operatives stationed at the facility.

He explained that the assailants engaged security personnel in an intense exchange of gunfire before being forced to abandon their mission due to the swift and coordinated response mounted by the security forces.

According to the institute, one of the suspected attackers was killed during the confrontation, while several others escaped from the scene with gunshot wounds and other injuries believed to have been sustained during the exchange.

Despite the attack, Samuel assured that the institute’s security perimeter was not breached, stressing that all participants of the ongoing Senior Executive Course, members of staff, residents and critical infrastructure within the facility remained unharmed.

He added that security agencies have since launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects, with efforts underway to identify, track and apprehend those involved in the attempted attack.

The institute further disclosed that surveillance operations and other proactive security measures have been strengthened within and around the NIPSS premises to prevent future incidents and enhance the safety of everyone on the campus.

Reassuring participants, employees, their families and the wider public, the management reiterated that the protection of lives and property remains its highest priority.

NIPSS also commended the professionalism, courage and prompt intervention of the security agencies whose swift response prevented what could have resulted in significant casualties and damage to the institution.

The institute urged members of the public to ignore unverified reports and misinformation capable of creating unnecessary fear, assuring that the situation had been brought under control.

The latest attack comes only weeks after another deadly assault on the institute by suspected gunmen. During that earlier incident, three security operatives were killed while defending the facility, raising fresh concerns over the security of one of Nigeria’s foremost policy and leadership training institutions.

The recurring attacks have renewed calls for tighter security around strategic national institutions, particularly those involved in training senior government officials, military officers and other top public sector leaders.
