Ondo South By-Election: APC candidate cruises to victory

Prof. Dayo Faduyile, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been declared the winner of the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election held on Saturday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result in the early hours of Sunday after the final collation of votes at Stella Maris College, Okitipupa.

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Gbenga Ibileye, said Faduyile won the election by securing the highest number of votes across the six local government areas where the poll was conducted.

According to the results announced by INEC, Faduyile polled 68,474 votes to defeat his opponents.

The candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Engr. Akinwunmi Adeolu Harrison, received 1,411 votes, while Adesanya Olaoluwa of the Action Peoples Party (APP) scored 213 votes. Nejo Funso Clement of the Boot Party (BP) polled 70 votes.

A total of 70,811 voters were accredited for the election. INEC said 70,168 votes were valid, while 602 ballots were rejected out of the 70,770 votes cast.
Declaring the result, Prof. Ibileye said Faduyile had met all the legal requirements and was therefore returned elected as the senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat left by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
