Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has criticised Peter Obi over his comments that President Bola Tinubu did not call Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde after the recent student abductions in the state.

Speaking during a media parley shared by TVC News, Wike argued that it is usually the responsibility of a state governor to first inform the president whenever a major security incident happens in the state. He said that if such a call was made between Makinde and the president, there should be no issue over who contacted whom first.

Wike also questioned why the matter was being turned into a political argument. According to him, the more important issue is whether the president showed concern and took action to address the situation rather than focusing on whether a phone call took place.

The FCT minister accused Obi of acting as though he was speaking on Makinde’s behalf. He said Obi appeared to be presenting only one side of the story, adding that there could be many other discussions between the governor and the president that were not made public.

Wike further argued that a phone conversation alone would not have solved the crisis. He maintained that what truly matters is the government’s response to the abductions.

He added that President Tinubu had already taken noticeable steps towards the rescue of the abducted students, saying those actions were more important than political debates over who called whom first.
