NULGE reacts as Akwa Ibom Govt pays outstanding arrears to members

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, has reacted to the payment of outstanding arrears owed to members by the Akwa Ibom State government after many years.

The state’s NULGE president, Anestina Iweh, in a statement on Wednesday said the payment has brought relief to workers across the state.

DAILY POST reports that Akwa Ibom State had cleared outstanding arrears owed local government workers in the state following Governor Umo Eno’s approval.

Reacting, the union said the payment has boosted confidence in the government among its employees who had waited for years for the arrears to be cleared.

NULGE described the development as a major milestone in efforts to strengthen the local government system and enhance service delivery in the state.

“The successful payment of the outstanding arrears is a significant demonstration of the administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and wellbeing.

“The payment has restored confidence in government and renewed the morale of workers who patiently awaited the settlement of these outstanding obligations,” the union stated.
