Northern Stakeholders Back Tinubu’s Reforms, Call for Continuity Ahead of 2027

Political leaders, academics, youth groups, traditional rulers and civil society stakeholders from northern Nigeria have expressed support for the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying ongoing economic reforms require continuity despite current hardship.The position was reached during a Northern Stakeholders Townhall Engagement organised by the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement at Arewa House on Saturday.

Participants said reversing current economic policies could undermine Nigeria’s recovery efforts and long-term stability ahead of the 2027 general elections. Representing the President, Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said the administration had moved “from reforms to recovery” through policies including fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange reforms and fiscal restructuring.

He also highlighted programmes such as the NELFUND student loan scheme, healthcare reforms, pension restructuring and youth empowerment initiatives. Kaduna State Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, said increased federal allocations had supported development projects under Governor Uba Sani, including transport, healthcare, agriculture and road construction.

In a keynote address, Prof. Solomon T. Gushibet described the reforms as necessary measures aimed at preventing fiscal instability, while acknowledging challenges such as inflation and food insecurity. Stakeholders at the event called for sustained public engagement and policy continuity to consolidate ongoing reforms.
