NIS Unveils 150 Housing Units for Officers, Plans Nationwide Expansion

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has reaffirmed its commitment to housing its employees nationally and revealed intentions to duplicate current housing initiatives throughout the nation.

The Nigeria Immigration Service Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited NIMCOS Housing Estate at Kutunku Extension, Gwagwalada Area Council, which was constructed in collaboration with a private developer, was officially commissioned on Wednesday.

The event was a clear demonstration of the Service’s commitment to the welfare of its employees, according to Comptroller General of Immigration Service CGIS Kemi Nana Nandap, who was represented by Deputy Comptroller General DCG in charge of Visa and Residency Dr. Franca Usiwoma Nwanneka.

Nandap noted that good housing remained one of the most important aspects of staff welfare because it provides security, promotes stability, and enables officers to perform their duties more successfully.

Nwaneka praised Abiskoly Real Estate Developers for working with the cooperative society to carry out the project, saying their professionalism, dedication to quality, and timely delivery had greatly contributed to the success being celebrated.

She also praised the Executive Committee of NIMCOS for their vision, hard work, and commitment to enhancing the welfare of members through the initiative.

She asked the housing unit beneficiaries to preserve the estate and take good care of the facilities.

“Upkeep is essential. Take care of it even though it can be your own property. Nwaneka stated, “Let it be decent so that when people come here and see it, they will want more of it elsewhere.”

Dr. Salihu Barau Dauda, President of NIMCOS, described the event in his keynote speech as not just the commissioning of buildings but also the celebration of a vision realized and another significant accomplishment in the endeavor to enhance the welfare and standard of living of cooperative society members.

The official land-breaking ceremony for the estate was held on August 13, 2025, he revealed.

The estate consists of 150 housing units made up of contemporary two-bedroom and three-bedroom bungalows designed to provide comfort, durability, functionality, and an environment conducive to family life.

According to Dauda, the event was especially special because it was the commissioning of two housing estates on the same day, the second of which was a 1,000-unit Abiskoly-developed housing estate in Kuchiyako District of Kuje Area Council.

He stated that the accomplishment did not occur overnight, pointing out that NIMCOS had successfully offered housing alternatives for members at the Brains and Hammers Bungalow City, Dei-Dei, Abuja and had sponsored property acquisition programs in a number of areas across the nation.

“Our goal extends beyond Abuja. I’m happy to let you know that another stage of our house development initiative is currently underway in Minna, Niger State.

Plans are in place to duplicate such initiatives outside of Minna in other federation states where member demand is high enough.

Establishing sustainable housing programs in every region of Nigeria where our members live and work is our long-term goal, according to Dauda.

Alhaji Yakubu Ibrahim Adoke, the event’s chairman, stated that the benefiting officers’ minds were now at ease because they knew they had someplace to rest even before they retired.

He urged other paramilitary groups to follow the NIS’s lead.
