Nigerian Army Makes U-turn, Says Suspect Caught During Operation Isn’t A Terrorist

According to a Facebook post on 23rd July 2026, the Nigerian Army has cleared an individual who was previously reported as a terror suspect. The military said investigations found no evidence linking him to any terrorist group.

The clarification followed media reports about an individual intercepted by troops during an exploitation operation after the attack on Cross Kauwa. The military explained that the troops acted in line with established operational procedures. It said the prevailing security situation made it necessary to take the individual into custody for further investigation.

The individual was identified as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi. According to the military, investigative processes found no evidence connecting him to any known terrorist organisation.

The investigation also confirmed that he is a resident of Shattu Anguba Village in Bosso, Republic of Niger. He was said to be engaged in camel rearing beyond the River Komadougou.

Following the outcome of the investigation, Operation HADIN KAI said Zein-Nur had been cleared of all suspected terrorist links. The Theatre Command stressed that every person intercepted under suspicious circumstances during military operations is subjected to due process. It added that appropriate security screening is conducted to distinguish innocent civilians from terrorist elements.
