New emails reveal questions around Chadwick Boseman’s final days

Newly revealed emails have shed light on a tense dispute between Chadwick Boseman’s widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, and the actor’s brothers after his death, with the correspondence showing that his family sought answers about his final days and requested access to medical records and personal information.

The documents, obtained by TMZ, reveal that lawyers representing Boseman’s parents and brothers sent a letter to his widow’s legal team weeks after the actor’s death, requesting the preservation of data from his phones, computers and other electronic devices.

The family’s lawyers also requested access to Chadwick’s medical records and financial documents, saying their aim was to ensure that his wishes and the distribution of his assets were properly followed.

The correspondence, however, quickly turned confrontational.

In a response dated December 1, 2020, Ledward Boseman’s legal team accused the actor’s brothers of taking an aggressive approach, saying their actions had changed the nature of discussions surrounding the estate.

The letter stated that Boseman’s widow had attempted to work with his family and include them in efforts to preserve his legacy, but accused them of forcing the matter into a legal battle.

The dispute later expanded beyond estate issues, with the actor’s brothers raising questions about circumstances surrounding Boseman’s final days.

According to the newly revealed correspondence, the family sought medical information after questioning why Boseman was found on the floor of his bedroom on the day he died. They also said they wanted an autopsy, which they claimed revealed findings that raised concerns about the medical treatment he had received.

The brothers’ lawyers also referenced toxicology findings and raised concerns about the level of hydromorphone found in Boseman’s system at the time of his death, describing the result as something they wanted further explained.

The documents do not establish any wrongdoing or change the official understanding that Boseman died in 2020 following complications from colon cancer.

The correspondence also revealed disagreements over Chadwick Boseman’s wishes regarding his estate. His brothers claimed they believed the actor had recorded instructions about how certain residual payments from his films should be distributed among his family members.

The legal battle has continued years after the actor’s death, with Boseman’s brothers later filing documents seeking to remove Ledward Boseman as administrator of his estate, a move she has opposed.

Chadwick Boseman, best known for portraying King T’Challa in Marvel’s Black Panther, died in August 2020 at the age of 43 after privately battling colon cancer. His death shocked fans around the world, with tributes pouring in from Hollywood and beyond.

The newly surfaced emails now provide a glimpse into the private family conflict that unfolded behind the scenes following the actor’s passing.
