NDLEA raids Edo warehouse, arrests couple with 22 bags of skunk, Canadian Loud

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arrested a couple for alleged trafficking in illicit drugs in Benin City.

DAILY POST reports that the Commander of NDLEA in the State, Dr Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday.

Ofoyeju said the suspects, identified as Christian Chukwuka, 32, and Nwanneka Christian, 33, were arrested during a raid on a warehouse along Sapele Road, where they deal in narcotic drugs.

He said the suspects are from Ndokwa in Delta State.

Ofoyeju explained that during the raid, 22 bags of skunk cannabis weighing 219.5 kilograms and compressed blocks of Canadian loud, a potent strain of synthetic cannabis weighing 192.67 kilograms, were recovered.

“The discovery highlights a growing concern regarding drug trafficking and illegal drug distribution in the state.

“The successful operation was carried out following credible intelligence received on the notorious criminal activities by the above suspected couple.

“The arrest and seizure are a reflection of growing concern over drug trafficking and abuse,” he said.

Ofoyeju alleged that Mr Christian Chukwuka, one of the suspects, in his statement claimed that poverty and joblessness pushed him into the criminal act.

The suspect reportedly pleaded, “I am a secondary school graduate, and I learnt how to drive trucks, but because of joblessness, a friend introduced me to drug trafficking.

“My wife has a set of twins for me, and the pressure of financial upkeep has been a challenge.

“If given another chance, I promise not to deal in drugs again.”

The NDLEA commandant said the suspects would be charged to court  at the conclusion of investigations.
