My Husband Brother Said I’ll Be Alive, They’ll Take Everything From Me, That I Don’t Have Son -Asonye
Widow, Ifeoma Asonye has recounted how she was allegedly dispossessed of her property by her late husband’s family after his death, saying her ordeal stemmed from the fact that she had no male child.
Asonye made the revelation during an interview on News Central TV, where she spoke on the suffering of widows in the South-East and the cultural practices that often leave them vulnerable after the death of their husbands. She described how she struggled to protect her home while facing pressure from members of her late husband’s family.
Recounting the incident, Asonye said, “The Engineer came with his boys. Carved out the side we lived in around 2011. That was when my husband’s brother said good and fine, she has built a house and that I will be alive and they take everything from me. That I don’t have a son that what use are female children. My children told me not to be bothered that God will have mercy on me.”
According to Asonye, the incident occurred in 2011 when an engineer, accompanied by several men, allegedly partitioned the section of the property where she and her children lived.
