The Governor of Delta State has stirred political reactions after openly declaring that his foremost political objective at the moment is to ensure the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking at a public event, the governor emphasized that anyone who claims to support him politically must also support the President, arguing that he cannot separate his own political agenda from that of Tinubu.
According to the governor, his current focus is centered on mobilizing support for the President ahead of future political contests.
He maintained that it would be inconsistent for individuals to express loyalty to him while refusing to back the candidate he is promoting. “You can’t say you are supporting me and love me, yet refuse to support my candidate,” he said. “The project I have in my hand today is how to deliver Mr. President.”
Addressing critics who have questioned his position, the governor defended the policies and reforms introduced by the federal administration.
He argued that political leaders should promote what they believe is working and stand by the results being achieved. “It’s what you have that you market,” he stated. “If I cannot market Mr. President, then who should?”
The governor further highlighted what he described as the financial independence and development efforts of his administration, noting that Delta State has continued to execute projects without solely depending on monthly federal allocations.
Drawing attention to ongoing economic reforms, he challenged opponents to objectively assess the outcomes of the policies.
According to him, if the reforms were truly failing, citizens would be able to see the evidence. However, he suggested that visible development projects and government activities indicate that progress is being made.
