MoMo Scammer Demonstrates How They Scam Victims Of Their Money Via Phone Calls

A video circulating online allegedly shows a suspected mobile money (MoMo) scammer casually narrating how he was in the middle of attempting to defraud a victim of GH¢30,000 over the phone, captioned nonchalantly, “Just 30,00 ooo guys.”

In the clip, the young man is seen walking along a bush path while on a phone call, seemingly detailing the scam in progress to whoever is filming or listening, seemingly unbothered by the scale of the amount involved.

The casual tone of the video, treating an alleged large-scale fraud attempt almost like a lighthearted flex, has drawn criticism online from viewers alarmed at how openly such activity appears to be discussed.

MoMo fraud remains one of Ghana’s most persistent digital crime challenges, with the Bank of Ghana’s Financial Stability Review previously recording thousands of mobile money fraud cases annually, and MTN Ghana repeatedly emphasising that such scams typically succeed only when victims are tricked into sharing PINs, OTPs, or other sensitive account details through social engineering tactics.

The identity of the man in the video, the outcome of the alleged scam attempt, and whether any victim actually lost funds have not been confirmed.
