Missing student James Gracey’s wallet found in sea close to where he vanished in Barcelona

Missing University of Alabama student James Gracey’s wallet was found floating in the sea near where he vanished in Barcelona, Spain, police revealed Thursday — as his frat brother admits he’s “scared” for the spring breaker.

Cops found the wallet floating off Somorrostro beach, which starts a few hundred feet from the Shoko nightclub where the American was last seen, WLS-TV reported.

It was found Wednesday as a Catalan police aquatic unit combed the sea looking to see if the 20-year-old student had gone into the water after leaving the club.

The results of the search were “negative,” a source with knowledge of the probe told CNN.

Junior student Gracey, known as Jimmy, failed to make it to his Airbnb less than 2 miles from where he left the club around 3 a.m Tuesday, alarming the frat brothers who were with him on the spring break trip.

“We’re doing everything we can to keep our heads up and remain hopeful that we find him safe, but it’s a tough time. And, you know, we’re scared,” Gracey’s Theta Chi fraternity brother Cavin McLay told WBMA.

“He is currently our chaplain, so he guides a lot of our brothers on their journey in their faith. we’re heartbroken, but we’re keeping our heads held high and remaining hopeful,” he told Fox News Thursday.

Investigators have since reviewed surveillance footage from Shoko, which revealed Gracey didn’t leave alone, according to El Periodico.

But, they’ve not been able to confirm who he was with, leading authorities to think foul play may be involved.

Gracey, from the Chicago suburb West Elmhurst, was reportedly speaking to a brown-haired American woman when he vanished, Fox News reported.

The authorities found Gracey’s phone as part of their probe — and are hoping this will prove a useful tool when it comes to tracking his last known location.

Family spokesperson Noreen Heron claimed his phone had been found when cops arrested another person.

But, Gracey’s aunt, Beth O’Reilly, said she was unsure if his cell phone had been stolen or he had lost it.

“We don’t know whether it was lost, stolen, whatever,” she told NewsNation.

“Beyond that, we don’t have a lot of additional information right now.”

Gracey, who arrived in Barcelona Monday following a trip to Amsterdam, Netherlands, has a flight booked back to the US Saturday, according to his CNN producer uncle David.

The student’s dad has traveled to Spain and the State Department says it is ready to provide “all consular assistance to Americans in need abroad.”
