Miley Cyrus Says She’s Ready To Act Again, But On One Condition

Miley Cyrus has said she’s ready to dip her feet back into the cutthroat movie industry following a lengthy hiatus.

The “Flowers” singer made the revelation in the latest issue of Wonderland Magazine after Daryl Hannah asked whether her future plans include taking on another television or film role.

“Well…That’s partly why I wanted to get in touch. I’d genuinely love to do both. My dream has always been to work with artists I admire, and you’re one of them. I think we’d make magic together, Daryl. I have an idea. Call me,” she said.

When makeup artist James Kaliardos further pressed her on the kind of role she’d love to play, Cyrus revealed she’s drawn to romance.

“Violence is everywhere, and there’s a beauty in darkness, but I’d love to disappear into something deeply romantic,” she said. “The kind of love we dream about, but with real stakes. A good old Shakespearean tragedy would be hot—a punk-rock Juliet. Something fierce and heartbreakingly romantic.”

The Singer Says Her Attention Span Changed Everything

Cyrus is no stranger to television and film, having starred in projects like “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” “Bolt,” “The Last Song,” and “So Undercover.”

Around the same time in the mid-to-late 2000s, her music career exploded, cementing her status as a global pop star.

She gradually shifted her focus to music, with her most notable acting credits in recent years being the Netflix special “A Very Murray Christmas” in 2015 and Woody Allen’s Amazon Studios series “Crisis in Six Scenes.”

Speaking in an earlier issue of Wonderland Magazine, the 33-year-old explained that her short attention span made committing to lengthy productions difficult.

“My attention span doesn’t love the idea of focusing and being on one project for so many months, especially being a character and not getting to be myself for that amount of time,” she said.

Cyrus added, “I get really deep into the characters I play, just like I do with music. So then it becomes hard for me to relate—even to my family and friends—I’m so deep into that character. So for right now, I am so content with where I am; being someone else doesn’t sound that fun to me.”

However, the singer later revealed that one condition could convince her to return to acting.

Speaking in a 2024 profile with W Magazine, Cyrus explained that she’s become more selective about the roles she’d consider, especially because she believes audiences often struggle to separate her public persona from the characters she plays.

“I would like to act again. But the role would really need to be right, since it’s kind of hard for people to see past me and buy into a character,” she said.

“The character would either need to be an extension of myself, or someone—or something—with a personality that can conquer my own. I would need a character that is bigger than me,” the pop star added.

Regardless, Cyrus continues to thrive in music and has recently signed with Atlantic Records after releasing two albums through Columbia, including “Endless Summer Vacation.”

In her wide-ranging interview with Wonderland Magazine, for which she also serves as co-editor, she reflected on the next stage of her career and what she enjoys most about making music.

“For me, a song isn’t just chords, melody, and lyrics. It’s a feeling,” she said, per Variety. “It’s not right or wrong like an answer. It’s alive. It almost becomes its own little entity that tells you what it needs if you’re listening.”

Cyrus continued, “I love making records with people who aren’t precious about ideas. Everyone is there because they’re excited by the same thing. There’s no ego in the room when it’s working. Just curiosity. It’s really special to be surrounded by people who want to surprise each other and are comfortable throwing an idea away or expanding on it.”

When Hannah asked about her favorite part of making music, Cyrus said it gives her a deep sense of fulfillment and makes her feel connected to something greater than herself.

“I love feeling aligned with my purpose, my power, and my gifts. I feel closest to something bigger than myself when records flow through me,” she explained.

“It’s almost impossible to describe. It’s like waking up from a dream you can still feel in your body even though you can’t fully explain it logically. Songwriting feels like crossing over to another side sometimes. A new song can feel like I’ve already heard it before,” she continued.

The “Younger Now” singer added that even before a song is finished, she “somehow knows exactly what it is,” making it feel as though she’s “remembering it instead of creating it.”

“That’s the mystery I love,” Cyrus added.
