Michael Osheku, Filmdows focus on changing film distribution landscape

Michael Osheku, co-founder of Filmdows Entertainment, is working with filmmakers and producers on film sales, project positioning and distribution as the industry continues to adjust to changing audience habits and release models.

Osheku has over nine years of experience in film programming, project evaluation and filmmaker support. His career has included work with international film platforms, where he was involved in film selection, programming and collaborations with filmmakers and industry stakeholders across different countries.

His experience has largely focused on how films are positioned for festivals, audiences and the wider market.

Filmdows Entertainment provides services covering film sales support, strategic positioning, festival planning, distribution pathways and market exploration. The company works with projects at different stages, from pre-production to post-production.

“Filmdows was established to help filmmakers navigate decisions that influence how a film travels and connects with audiences,” Osheku said. “We view films as assets that require deliberate positioning within the broader market and audience landscape.”

According to Osheku, filmmakers are increasingly having to consider several routes to reach audiences as traditional distribution models continue to change.

He noted that the rise of fragmented viewing platforms and changing audience behaviour has made decisions around festival participation, release strategies and distribution increasingly important.

“Distribution environments continue to evolve,” he said. “Filmmakers are increasingly required to evaluate multiple pathways for circulation and audience access.”

The shift has also placed greater emphasis on understanding where a film fits within different markets and how it can be presented to potential audiences and industry partners.

For Osheku and Filmdows, the focus is on helping filmmakers assess these options while navigating the commercial and creative considerations involved in taking a film from production to its intended audience.
