Michael Carrick Confirmed As Manchester United’s Permanent Head Coach

Manchester United have officially confirmed the appointment of Michael Carrick as the club’s permanent head coach following an impressive spell in interim charge.

Carrick, who initially took over in January after the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, had been appointed on a short-term basis until the end of the season.

However, after successfully guiding the Red Devils back into the UEFA Champions League places, the club’s hierarchy decided to hand him the role on a full-time basis.

The former United midfielder enjoyed a strong run during his interim spell, winning 11 of his 16 matches in charge, drawing three and losing only two.

His tenure began with an impressive four-match winning streak and included notable victories against Premier League rivals Manchester City and Arsenal.

When Carrick assumed control, Manchester United were sitting seventh in the Premier League standings. However, a dramatic 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday secured third place for the club with one game remaining in the season.

The appointment marks a significant moment for Carrick, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford as a player and later worked within the club’s coaching structure after retirement.

Reports also indicate that members of his coaching staff, including Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans and Travis Binnion, are expected to receive new contracts as part of the restructuring under Carrick’s leadership.

Speaking after his appointment was confirmed, Carrick expressed pride at being trusted with the responsibility of leading the club permanently.

“Throughout the past five months this group of players have shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness, and determination that we demand here.

“Now it’s time to move forward together, with ambition and a clear sense of purpose. Manchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again.”
