Megyn Kelly Blasts ‘Cowardly’ Caitlin Clark For ‘Refusing’ To Pick A Side On Transgender Debate

Right-wing political commentator Megyn Kelly has an issue with Caitlin Clark. On Sunday, August 2, Clark was asked to weigh in on the growing debate over transgender athletes competing in women’s sports after her teammate Sophie Cunningham said she opposed it. While speaking with the media, Clark gave a brief, PG response that appeared to sidestep the debate altogether. Kelly wasn’t buying it, blasting Clark’s response as “cowardly” on both her podcast and social media.

On “The Megyn Kelly Show,” the former Fox News anchor unleashed on some of the women in the WNBA, many of whom have come out in support of transgender athletes and spoke about the importance of inclusivity in sports.

“These women’s coaches are absolute effing cowards, and we have taken one step forward, two steps back when it comes to this issue. I am sick of people who don’t know anything about this spewing their ignorance all over the internet, whether it’s verbally or through their dumb T-shirts or the attacks on the Sophie Cunningham who simply spoke truth about how it’s not fair to allow men to compete in women’s sports,” Kelly said.

Kelly went on to say that she was surprised that the topic of transgender athletes competing in women’s sports was still a pressing topic, adding that she believed people had moved on from this conversation several years ago.

She then turned her attention to Clark and blasted the Indiana Fever star for her PG answer on the topic. “I’m sorry, Caitlin Clark was directly asked to speak on it, and she was cowardly! She refused to do it,” said Kelly.

Kelly continued, “It is one thing to inject politics into your sport where they don’t belong, like Colin Kaepernick kneeling in the middle of professional football games. It’s quite another when little girls are getting the shit kicked out of them in their sport, and you are the most famous woman in women’s basketball, and you’re directly asked as the issue rears its head in your sport, and you punt on it.”

What Did Caitlin Clark Say About Transgender Athletes In Women’s Sports?

Kelly’s comments about Clark come after the WNBA star told the media that transgender athletes competing in women’s sports wasn’t something she or her teammates had spent much of their time thinking about.

“I think for us, it’s not really a discussion we really have in our locker room,” she said. “I think it’s for leagues and the governing bodies to work with their athletes to find solutions, but our focus is on basketball.”

Clark shared her thoughts on the matter after her teammate, Cunningham, caused an uproar amongst WNBA fans after telling a reporter that she didn’t believe transgender athletes should compete against biological women.

“I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men,” she said, according to The Blast.

Cunningham Stood By Her Words

Despite the backlash, Cunningham said she wasn’t mincing her words, and, in fact, stood by them while speaking with the media. “I said what I said. I think it’s kind of common sense,” she stated. “And I think I’ll always believe in that. I think it’s really important to protect children, and that’s little girls who are also involved in that category. I stand on what I said.”

Cunningham also clarified in a post on X that even though she’s against inviting transgender athletes into women’s sports, that doesn’t mean she has a problem with their existence. “Biological girls, biological boys, trans women, and trans men. Everyone is welcome at my table! You can disagree and still be kind,” she wrote.

Cunningham Gets Support

Besides Kelly, Cunningham also received support from “Harry Potter” author JK Rowling, who slammed the “f-cking insane” critics who took issue with the backup Fever guard’s words.

“They’re peacefully protesting against the grotesque unfairness of men playing in women’s sport,” Rowling, known for her anti-trans views, wrote on X. “The only people who are ‘f-cking insane’ here are those making a mockery of fair sport for women and trying to bully girls like this into silence.”
