Mbah commends security forces over major arms recovery operation
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has applauded the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force for what he described as their effective collaboration in tackling security threats across Enugu State and the wider South-East region.
The governor spoke on Friday after inspecting a large collection of weapons and ammunition recovered during a security operation that targeted a facility believed to be linked to the proscribed Eastern Security Network.
According to the Enugu State Government, Mbah visited the headquarters of the DSS in the state, where the recovered items were displayed following a joint operation involving DSS personnel and troops of the Nigerian Army’s 82 Division.
Among the items recovered were a rocket launcher, two rocket-propelled grenade warheads, three RPG chargers, 11 AK-47 rifles and more than 610 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition. Security operatives also recovered National Youth Service Corps uniforms and lanyards.
Accompanied by senior government officials and security commanders, the governor commended the coordination among the various agencies, noting that their efforts had strengthened security and helped prevent potential attacks.
He said the operation, which was driven by intelligence gathering, had thwarted plans that could have posed a serious threat not only to Enugu State but also to other parts of the South-East.
“The recovered arms and ammunition would have been used by the ESN terrorists to wreak havoc across the South and paint a false picture that insecurity has taken over Nigeria,” the governor said.
Mbah also called on citizens to support measures being implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to combat insecurity, stressing that the challenge required collective commitment beyond political, ethnic or religious considerations.
He maintained that sustained cooperation between security agencies and members of the public remained essential to preserving peace and stability across the country.
