Mark Wahlberg Relives 9/11 Emotions That ‘Words Just Can’t Say’
Mark Wahlberg mourns victims of a catastrophe he narrowly escaped!
The Hollywood star has joined his voice with millions of others across the world to honor the lives of those who died during the calamity that took nearly 3,000 lives and shook the economy of the United States on September 11, 2001.
Mark Wahlberg has often shared the story of how he survived boarding one of the aircrafts involved in the 9/11 crash following a sudden change in plans right before the journey.
The actor shared a video of the waving flag of the United States with the late Dolly Parton’s song “God Bless The USA” playing as the soundtrack. Wahlberg kept his caption very short, yet solemn, to convey his emotions on such an emotionally overwhelming day.
“This anniversary is always a gut punch of emotions…words just can’t say it all,” the television personality declared as he attached the hashtags “#neverforget911 and #freedomisntfree.”
Wahlberg’s comment section also emphasized the same tone of tranquility and decorum, as his fans and well-wishers promised never to forget the tragedy that changed the security landscape of America forever.
One commenter confessed that they had turned 7 on that day and since then, they stopped feeling excited about birthdays. Another Instagram user stressed:
“Can’t believe it’s 25 years. This generation is not even being taught about the atrocities that happened that day, sadly, but our generation, which was affected deeply, will still never forget.”
How The ‘Planet Of The Apes’ Star And Seth MacFarlene Cheated Death
25 years ago, as shared by The Daily Mail, the movie star and his pal were slated to board the American Airlines Flight 11 heading to New York. The airline had departed from Boston’s Logan Airport and crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, killing all passengers on board.
The duo had missed the flight due to an emergency change in plans and consuming too much alcohol the previous night, leading to a hangover. Days prior to takeoff, the actor had headed to Toronto, honoring the invitation of a friend who asked him to view his film at the Toronto Film Festival.
As for MacFarlene, he narrowly escaped the disaster thanks to having had too much to drink after he celebrated all night at the Rhode Island School of Design, his alma mater. He was then given an incorrect departure time by his travel agent, causing him to arrive 10 minutes too late to board the flight.
Nineteen Al-Qaeda operatives hijacked four airlines across America on that day, with two airplanes crashing into the Twin Towers in New York, the third striking the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and the fourth crashing in Pennsylvania.
How Mark Wahlberg Marked The 20th Anniversary Of The Terror Attack
The Hollywood icon has stayed consistent in his tributes. In 2021, he joined important figures like Reese Witherspoon, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Arnold Schwarzenegger to celebrate two decades of the gloomy day.
Wahlberg took to social media to reassure the loved ones of the victims that he was always thinking about the dead and their families who have to deal with the huge loss. His statement carried a similar weight to that of Obama, who described the nearly 3,000 lost souls as heroes who gave their lives to America in extraordinary ways.
President Joe Biden urged everyone not to forget the sacrifice of those who lost their lives on America’s darkest day, and the enduring pain of their loved ones. Reese Witherspoon also sent her love and prayers to the loved ones and families of every life lost across the United States on that day.
Schwarzenegger praised the resilience of America in the face of such a damning attack, which threatened the united fabric of society. He encouraged everyone to continue in that culture of oneness, which will always triumph over any attack.
How The Actor Is Moving On From Hollywood Life
As noted by The Blast in 2025, Wahlberg made a huge change in his living situation by splurging a massive $37 million on an expansive home in Florida. The move came after he sold off his Las Vegas home less than a year after he moved there from Los Angeles in 2022.
The actor had revealed that he left California for Las Vegas to give his kids a shot at a better life and let them experience amazing areas that are about family and community.
Wahlberg is father to four children in his marriage to Rhea Durham, and he noted that his relocation was to provide them equal opportunities to pursue their goals.
Wahlberg’s Florida property sprawls across 17,800 square feet of space on 2.7 acres of land, housing state-of-the-art facilities like a swimming pool, a home theatre, a sauna, a wine cellar, a guest house, and a cigar lounge.
The actor’s property also contained seven bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, and two powder rooms alongside a home gym and a tennis court.
Mark Wahlberg Called Acting A Huge Sacrifice For His Family
The actor, during an interview with ABC News, affirmed that taking a step back from Hollywood had nothing to do with him retiring for good. Instead, he reflected on the sacrifices he has made, and likewise his family, to give his career the necessary momentum to grow.
While his choice of profession often required him to be away from his family for lengthy periods, Wahlberg could not be happier that his kids pay him visits on sets and attend some work functions, like the premiere of “Play Dirty.”
“And, you know, the biggest sacrifice with my job is being away from my family. So, to be able to have them come and share that and experience it and spend time with me, you know, visit dad so I can see their faces,” the movie star stated.
He added that over the years, his children have, however, shown less enthusiasm for his line of work compared to when he first began, and they wanted to be around him all the time.
Congratulations, Mark Wahlberg!
