Man allegedly posing as pro basketball player drives off with $90,000 BMW from Georgia hotel

A man allegedly posing as a professional basketball player drove off with a $90,000 BMW SUV from a hotel in Georgia after convincing valet workers that the vehicle belonged to him.

According to a police report obtained by WSB-TV, the suspect was seen at the Hyatt Regency Savannah around 12:30 a.m. on August 14.

Police said he had earlier been seen retrieving belongings from a white Audi before presenting a valet ticket for a grey 2026 BMW X5.

The man allegedly told valet workers that he was a professional basketball player with several vehicles at the hotel before getting into the BMW and driving away.

The BMW was owned by a dealership and had been provided as a loaner vehicle to a hotel guest.

The dealership later tracked the vehicle to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, prompting Savannah police to have it listed as stolen in state and national databases.

Investigators subsequently discovered that the white 2025 Audi A5 the suspect had arrived in had also been reported stolen the previous day. The Audi was later found unlocked in the hotel parking garage.

Police also linked the suspect to another alleged valet theft at a Savannah hotel on August 5, where a guest’s 2019 Toyota C-HR reportedly disappeared after being left with the valet service.

The Savannah Police Department has released surveillance photos of the suspect, described as a Black male believed to be between 20 and 30 years old.
