Lionel Messi lifts record 48th trophy as Inter Miami win Campeones Cup
Lionel Messi has achieved another milestone in his remarkable career after leading Inter Miami to a 2-0 victory over Cruz Azul to win the 2026 Michelob ULTRA Campeones Cup at Nu Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Argentine football legend opened the scoring with a 24th-minute header assisted by Luis Suárez, reaching the century mark just over three years after joining the club, before assisting Casemiro for the second.
Inter Miami have now lifted a trophy in four consecutive seasons – every year since Messi’s transformative arrival in South Florida midway through the 2023 campaign.
The Campeones Cup is contested between the MLS champion and the winner of Mexico’s Campeón de Campeones. The victory marked Inter Miami’s first Campeones Cup title and their fourth major trophy since Messi arrived in South Florida.

Messi’s trophy haul with Inter Miami now includes the 2023 Leagues Cup, 2024 Supporters’ Shield, 2025 MLS Cup and 2026 Campeones Cup. The club has therefore won silverware in every season since his arrival midway through the 2023 campaign.
Across his illustrious career, Messi’s 48 trophies have come with Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Argentina and Inter Miami. His international collection includes the 2022 FIFA World Cup and Copa América titles in 2021 and 2024, while his Barcelona achievements include 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns.
